On 31 December 2025, Cyprus stopped accepting new net-metering applications. New systems now fall under a net-billing / self-consumption regime. Exported power is worth less than it used to be, so the smart system is sized to use its own energy, often with a battery.
- Existing net-metering contracts stay valid until they expire.
- New systems earn most of their value from self-consumption, not export.
- Cyprus curtailed almost half its solar in 2025, which is exactly why storage now matters.
